Help Needed

There is a project in place in the Omaha Metro area to provide safe housing for victims of domestic abuse.  These safe houses come with counseling, training, support, and a new start.

Needed: used cell phones.  Regardless if smart or not, new or old.  As long as they are working and have a charger.  They are rehabilitated and given to communicate so these women can apply for jobs, assistance, and get on with life.

WILL YOU HELP?  Please bring YOUR used cell phone and charger to Inclusive Life 3622 Leavenworth Street, Omaha, NE 68105 (402) 575-7006

Holistic Health

“Royal, what’s this with you and those oils?  What do they do?”  It is often that I am asked that question, now.  My reply is this.

I think that everyone wants to eat better, live better, have better health.  The problem is that with a saturation of commercials, ads, products and gimmicks, it is not easy to find the “real thing” or the best solution easily.

Some take herbs.  Herbs have been used for a long period of time and date back thousands of years.  Which are best for you?  Like anything, you should determine that for yourself.  I do not sell herbs currently.  I have suggested them at times to those with specific issues.

Some take powders, or food products.  For the most part, I agree with a great food and fitness instructor, Jack LaLanne “if man man made it, don’t eat it!” That is why we are encouraged to buy/shop in the perimeter of the grocery store.  For the most part, if we shop in the isles, we are buying man made products full of toxins, potential cancer causing agents, GMO’s, and chemicals and components that just not good for us OR the environment.

I support the use of organic, therapeutic, safe essential oils.  I am a Young Living Essential Oil distributor, and I do support a couple other companies that sell quality essential oils.  Products that are used to make essential oils are not grown equally, harvested equally, distilled equally, packaged equally, or priced equally.  You get what you pay for.  If you are paying $15 for a 5ml bottle of Frankincense, it is not therapeutic, organic grade-it is perfume or food grade.

Essential Oils are the “blood” or life-force of plants and trees.  They have been used for thousands of years.  I also believe that they make up a missing component of modern Western Medicine as an alternative to modern day pharmacology.

2013 Week 38

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Inclusive.  This morning I officiated a unique ceremony that brought each adult who attended to tears.  They all shared that it was the most beautiful ceremony that they had witnessed.  A couple chose to combine a spiritual welcoming ceremony incorporating the earth elements of fire, air, earth, and water with a traditional Christian Baptism.

Being a non-denominational pastor with an organization that serves all without exception, allows me to be a part of many unique and special ceremonies (weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other life rituals.)

Today the parents named guardians and spiritual guardians for their daughter who seemed appropriately attentive right on cue.

I know that some clergy does not approve or recognize the work that is done outside of their own belief system, training or religion.  In the minds, hearts and words of those whom we have served since 2009 our work is important, needed more than ever, and is welcomed.  I am Chaplain Royal Bush and I believe everyone is beautiful, loved and worthy just as they are.

Holistic Health

There is nothing better, in my opinion, than walking into a restaurant and smelling freshness: coffee, foods being prepared and maybe a hint of lemon.  Consciously or unconsciously, we use our sense of smell to judge what our experience may be like.

inclusivelife.org
Diffuses Essential Oils into the air...
Our homes are not much different.  A home’s healthfulness and cleanliness is important.  That is why retailers offer such a wide array of chemical sprays, gels, solids and plug-ins to scent our spaces. Three-quarters of all American homes are now scented with some type of commercial air freshener, an increase of nearly 30 percent since 1999.

Synthetic scents contain harmful chemicals. A study published in the Archives of Environmental Health linked chronic exposure to the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air fresheners to headaches and depression in new mothers and diarrhea and earaches in their babies.

Harmful VOCs in air fresheners include benzene and formaldehyde, which are byproducts of the manufacturing process. Benzene exposure can damage bone marrow, which can decrease red blood cells and affect immunity. Long-term exposure to airborne benzene has also been linked to increased risk of anemia and leukemia. Formaldehyde, a known carcinogenic neurotoxin, can irritate the eyes, nose, throat and skin.

Most air fresheners—even some labeled “all natural”—use phthalates as fixatives. Easily inhaled or absorbed through the skin, these chemicals accumulate in the body’s fatty tissue and liver, where they can remain for decades. High phthalate levels have been shown to cause low sperm counts and reproductive damage to male rat fetuses.

BUT WHAT CAN I DO?  Easy!  Insert Essential Oils into your life!  The better the grade/quality, the better results you will have.  Meaning: if you buy your oils in a store, you are “probably” getting perfume grade instead of something that is therapeutic-organic-and non-adulterated.

Using essential oils in your home can allow you to “treat” what ails you and your family at the same time, sharing an aroma that is inviting, and welcoming to your guests.  Essential oils are good for you, most are safe on pets and small children.

2013 Week 37

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
SPIRITUALITY.  I have come to know that many churches in the Omaha area experience lower attendance and participation.  Some say that it stems from when families traveled to the "coast" or the beach for the summer for vacation, where it was cooler (since many churches had no AC.)

I am a witness to the connection that people have; especially when they are open, vulnerable, and authentic.  I see, feel, understand, and am "hungry" for that very connection with others.  Sometimes I am fed through hugs, sometimes by holding hands, sometimes by listening, and sometimes through prayer (I love praying and being mindful when surrounded by powerful beautiful music.)

I know the word spirituality is controversial (at best) with many people.  Some will dismiss it, some will say it does not exist, and some will site why it is impossible to be.  I am one of the many people who do believe in a spiritual connection with others.  I might not be able to define spirituality in terms that you would understand, agree with or consider, and that is ok.  I am not trying to convince you to believe what I believe.  I would ask that you allow me permission to continue believing what I know to be true.

I am Royal Bush, I believe that all living beings are connected by love, life, energy, faith, family that perhaps makes up what I know as spirituality.

September 14, 2008

It was on this date in 2008 that I was named Minister of Hospitality at MCC Omaha (Metropolitan Community Church of Omaha.) What a ride of history!

I began worshiping at MCC Omaha many years prior, when the Rev. Mathew Howard was Sr. Pastor. My how worship styles, music and ministry work has changed.

One thing that has not change over the years, and I suspect since day one, is that many in Omaha claim, identify, or choose MCC as their “home” church. I am sure for a number of reasons (all of which are valid and true.) I do.

After getting a time-out from a judge and being away from my family for a brief period of time, I came home to a fresh start. It was during that time that I got right with myself, knew I had to get right with others, and I got right with God. I found my salvation, purpose and light while being punished.

When I returned home, I began a men’s support group at MCC. The church, Pastor Tom, and church leadership supported the group and encouraged me. After a few months the attendance began to decline and I walked away. Feeling discouraged. I didn’t ask for help, I just gave up.

A few months later I started to attend church again. Interestingly I was welcomed with open arms. I love to hug, say hello and make others laugh and smile. I became a fixture at the door on Sunday’s. I felt out of place if I was anywhere else but that door. I knew everyone’s face and knew right away if you were a regular, semi-regular, once-in-a-while or a newbie. I made sure that if you had not been back for a while or you were a newbie, that more than one person greeted you and welcomed you.

A few months of this and I was approached by the church to consider accepting the position of Minister of Hospitality. Of course I said yes! I so very much enjoyed that honor and responsibility.

In November of 2008 (I believe) I was honored to be asked by my peers to consider becoming a Deacon, and enter a time of Discernment. I accepted that challenge as well.

Although I do not attend MCCO, today, on a regular basis, I still preach, teach and sing their praises. Like any church, it is not a church for everyone, and it is a church for anyone.

Since my service at MCC Omaha, I founded Inclusive Life with the purpose to serve those who are without a pastor, or a church, and those without a religious belief when they need religious or non-religious pastoral services or holistic care.

I would not be a pastor myself if it were not for MCC, and the many people who lead me, pushed me, and provided tough love, true love and spiritual love. Because of MCCO I have dimension of spirituality that no other church that I have visited, has been able to see, feel, accept, or know.

I am thankful. I am grateful. I am blessed. I am a product of a community that has built me up, after I tore myself down. People are not meant to be thrown away. I close by sharing with you a phrase that I have coined based on my life experience, schooling and life… YOU are beautiful, loved and worthy. Just the way you are.

2013 Week 36

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Omaha.  Some describe Omaha as a liberal city in an ultra conservative state.  I think if we really break it down, it might be something like this... A progressive, modern, and inclusive city in a state that is homophobic, divisive, and close-minded.

I know that for some, those words a bit harsh.  In my 45 years of life, they are accurate.  As a pastor, I see first hand how harmful Nebraska's law's and policies are for same sex individuals, couples and families.  I see how ignorance from those who live outside the urban areas hurt others at family gatherings, funerals and weddings.

This is 2013 America!  Stop fighting each other!  Start fighting FOR each other!  Make peace, not war.  Share words of peace, love and compassion.

2013 Week 35

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Right-Relationship.
I am grateful for being in right-relationship with my best friend, my partner... my husband.  I teach that communication, commitment and compromise are the keys to all relationships, just as mine must be (and is!)

We just experienced a 5 day camping trip with 2 other couples.  This was not "easy street" camping with AC Camper or cabin with electricity; this was tent camping, with a 2am storm WITH raccoon's!

This trip was in every way a much needed retreat to reset my mind, body and spirit.  I look forward to our annual trip in 2014.

Essential Oils Omaha

7 Great uses for Baking Soda…  a great non-toxic aid for us all to use!!!
1. Odor Absorber: One of baking soda’s best-known properties is its ability to neutralize odors. Sprinkle some at the bottom of trashcan liners. For carpet odors, sprinkle baking soda over carpet and let sit for 30 minutes to overnight, then vacuum.
2. Food De-Gunker: Easily remove caked-on food from pots and pans by soaking them in baking soda. Just sprinkle a liberal amount on tough spots, add water, let soak for 30 minutes to an hour, then scrub off. For extra power, add a few drops of white vinegar to the mix.
3. Laundry Booster: Add ½ cup baking soda to the wash cycle to enhance the effectiveness of detergent, absorb odors and help remove stains from clothing.
4. Silverware Sparkler: To clean silverware en masse, line a large glass baking pan with foil, then add silverware, making sure each piece touches foil. (Combined, heat, baking soda and aluminum create a chemical reaction that reverses the process that leads to silver tarnish.) Evenly distribute ½ cup baking soda over silverware, then completely immerse in boiling water. Let soak for five minutes, rinse (carefully—the water may still be hot!) and dry. You can also create a polishing paste by combining 1 cup baking soda with ¼ cup water; rub the paste over silverware using a damp cloth, then dry.
5. Natural Dentifrice: Make a tooth-cleaning powder by mixing three parts baking soda with one part salt. For flavor, add cinnamon sticks, cloves, citrus peels, a vanilla bean or dried mint leaves. Store in a lidded glass jar for a day or two to allow the aroma to permeate the mix, then transfer to a shaker for sprinkling on your toothbrush.
6. Dental Appliance Cleaner: Dissolve 2 teaspoons baking soda in warm water, then let dentures, retainers, mouth guards and other oral appliances soak. Or dip a toothbrush in baking soda and scrub.
7. Shampoo Booster: Shampoos, conditioners and other hair products can leave behind buildup. Mixing a teaspoon of baking soda into your shampoo bottle can help reduce buildup and make your hair more manageable. To learn more about shampoo alternatives, read the article Lather, Rinse, Do Not Repeat.

ESSENTIAL OILS TIP…
Pets bothered by ear mites? Mix two drops Purification essential oil, one drop peppermint essential oil and one teaspoon V-6 Massage Oil. Dab a cotton swab and rub it just inside your pet's ear, but don't go into the ear canal.
