Travel time to care

I digress a bit from my normal blog topics.  Maybe not too far.  This IS the holiday season, you know, that time from Thanksgiving weekend through just after the first of the year.  Everything in between is “The Holiday Season.”

We know that people are usually more generous with donations and sharing.
We know that lots of people travel.
We know that people are, in general, in better moods than normal.

We also know that traveling through airports, cabs, subways, busses, and trains can make people change.  Lines, mistakes, computers, employees, weather, and customers… when all mixed up it can become one ugly mess fast.
I have seen someone slap an airline worker in an airport over being told no.  I have seen people go nose to nose while standing in line.  In my day and time I have been to that very point with some customer service agents in my life.  I get it, sometimes enough is just enough.

This message is for each of us.  And it is a message for us to carry year round, not just during the “holiday season.”  Be kind to yourself.  Allow yourself time to travel safely, allow time for mistakes, errors and holdups.

Be kind to others.  Don’t take them hostages on your own anger trip or temper tantrum.  Know that if you are upset, discouraged or frustrated the person on the receiving end of your  behavior is probably right there with you, or further.

Take a deep breath, smile and know that when you think about this very moment in your life, it is only moments, maybe hours.  In the course of life with over 600,000 hours, I am sure you can care enough to share and spare a few.

We can be the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One moment of patience at a time.
