I
would like to explore some principles that a specific church adheres to. These may be familiar to some of you and they
may not to others. They are great
principles for ANYONE to follow.
“Acceptance
of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth.” I begin with two quotes. The first from Oliver Wendell Holmes, “Every calling is great when greatly pursued.” And the second is by Denis Waitley, “ Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.”
True words for us all.
I am disturbed at some who claim to be part of the, up to, 33% of those who identify as Christians. Garth Brooks sings a song called “We Shall Be Free.” One of the lines is “When we're free to love anyone we choose, When this world's big enough for all different views, When we all can worship from our own kind of pew…” It seems sometimes that the religious freedom in the United States is only honored, respected, acknowledged and upheld IF it is in and of Christianity.
There are millions and millions of people are proclaim their faith, their life journey, what they hold sacred and it isn’t Christianity, as we know, understand, teach and preach it.
It is important that each person be allowed their journey that may not include a path as yours. We should accept and encourage one another in the quest for spiritual growth and enlightenment. AND that will be different for each person!
I am not saying that Christianity is bad, wrong. I AM saying that many who proclaim to be “Christians” who are tearing people down instead of building people up, who are being intolerant, promoting injustice and encouraging discrimination might want to examine their own life journey and make adjustments to allow others to travel in peace.
We can be the change we seek in
this world, and in ourselves. One
day. One journey. One person.
One light at a time.
