Work you must pay rent. Work you must have car. Work you need to eat. Work you must pay taxes. Work you must… I certainly understand that earning an income allows most of the world to “live” life. In many parts of the world working means spending all day in your fields or with your animals preparing their fruits or them for harvest. Work can be rewarding, in addition to directly providing the benefit of earning cash. Work can be too much too!
How many stories are there about an absentee parent who worked their tail off to provide for the family, food, clothing, shelter, education, etc. and all the while missing out on life with the very people they had the good intention to provide for.
An 80 year old women, with a heart condition, told her daughter that for her birthday she wanted to visit the Statue of Liberty. She said that she would not be taking the elevator, she would be taking the stairs. 6 hours, a few pills, many “words” and many breaks later the final 6 steps where in sight! She said “why didn’t we do these ones first?” I love her!
In life, the climb we face is challenging. There is not rule book, hand book or internet site that will tell you what you need to do next, and how you need to do it! The climb that each of us as is unique to our upbringing, families, education, experiences and our own choices. We can work work work and miss out on family, friends, and even ourselves.
As we live, laugh love it is important to insure that we take time for ourselves and we take time for those who are important, those who are helping us get through life.
We can be the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves. One day. One journey. One person. One paycheck at a time.
