We need others

"We need others. We need others to love and we need to be loved by them. There is no doubt that without it, we too, like the infant left alone, would cease to grow, cease to develop, choose madness and even death."  -Leo Buscaglia (was a best-selling author and motivational speaker.)

WOW, what a powerful quote, I thought.  It fits with a recent post I had this week.  A human need for us is certainty (safety, security) and we often seek for that “certainty” in relationships with other people.  I also believe that is a common mistake that is made.  Seeking certainty in relationships will lead you on a wild goose chase…

Certainty is about knowing that when you put money in the bank today, it will be there tomorrow.

Certainty is about knowing that the ceiling in your home is not going to fall or cave in.
Certainty is about knowing that, kept in good repair, your car will start every day.
Certainty is not about your relationship with people.

Connections and Love would best describe our human need and most fits with how we should view our relationships with others.  Very few people say they don’t need love, and most desire to be a part of a community.  We, as humans, want to care for others, be cared for and be cared about.

As we speak of connections I also urge you to spend time understanding your beliefs, values and “faith”.  What are your values?
What are your beliefs?
What do you have faith in? (can be religious, non religious or spiritual)
How do you practice your values, beliefs and faith?
Have you written them out or examined them?
It is time to renew them?

We can be the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One connection at a time.
