Wanna be my friend?

If you're alone, I'll be your shadow.
If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder.
If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow.
If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile.
And anytime you need a friend, I’ll be me.

AND will add another thought I share often that I think goes hand in hand with this: people come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  And as much as we like, want to spend time with or desire to be around certain people, we must realize that their purpose in our life OR our purpose in THEIR life is complete.

It is a hard lesson to learn; to think about people being in your life temporarily.  I have had times that I was close to someone and that changed.  Sometimes I tried to “recreate” the old times and sometimes they tried.  It never really will be the same despite all good efforts, intensions and thoughts.

Sometimes we need to cry and other times we need to be the shoulder.  Sometimes we are alone and sometimes we are the shadow.  It is important that we pay attention and be intentional with our relationships with others.  our loved ones, family, friends, co-workers and strangers.  We need to be aware of our boundaries, their boundaries, and intentions.

I am not proposing having a dossier on each person you meet or interact with.  I am saying that developing relationships is an important step, process and journey, and as such it IS important to be intentional about behaviors, boundaries and intent.

We can be the change we seek in this world. and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One friend at a time.
