Plato
insisted that “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to
the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to
everything.”
For
me, I can share with you that music is a very important part of my life, my
practice of religious faith and in my family.
Driving to work I do like NPR and sometimes I just need the tunes; especially
on those days that driving is not fun.
Music allows me to escape, be calm and at times, it makes me smile, cry,
laugh and always feel good.
I
wrote a friend recently and I shared with her that while in a prayer service
they were playing music and singing, and I was deep in prayer. And I was listening to the music and went
deeper into prayer. When I was finishing
I realized that they music I was “listening” to in my head did NOT match the
music they were playing. I was recalling
a particular artist, song and moment in time.
(Note: there was nothing wrong with the music that was being played, it
was most beautiful and I joined right in.)
I
agree with Plato that music gives wings to the mind, for me it does. I believe that I am most deepest in prayer
and have such a strong connection to the Sacred when I have music around me, in
me and with me.
For
that I have many people to thank. People
who have exposed me to their talents, their passions and their love. No, not every key or note will be on key or
in tune. But when music is delivered
from the heart and soul, it has heart and soul and it allows others to soak in
it, with all of their heart and soul.
We can be the change we seek in
this world. and in ourselves. One
day. One journey. One person.
One note at a time.
