Family and Friends and You

Dr. Paul Pearshall once said “Our basic instinct is not for survival but for family. Most of us would give our own life for the survival of a family member, yet we lead our daily life too often as if we take our family for granted.”

Weddings, funerals, and maybe a big holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas, and for many families it is less than that when time is made to be with family member and close friends.  I know that we are all busy, working extra hours and extra jobs to make ends meet.  I also know that soon those tomorrows, become next year, and those years become numbered and soon there is no longer time left for someone to keep in touch with.

A written letter (yes you can still make those you know), a phone call (they do more than text message!) or a quick visit even if just for two days to catch up, tune in and show you care means a lot.  Perfect time for a favorite quote of mine… To the world you may only be one person, and to one person you may the world.  Sometimes it isn’t about YOU getting to see or in some cases HAVING to see your family or close friends, it is about them being to see YOU!  (It isn’t always about us!)

I urge each of us to be intentional about MAKING time, creating space and being intentional about our relationships with our family and friends.

We can be the change we seek in this world. and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One relationship at a time.
