Eating

Socrates said “Bad men live that they may eat and drink, whereas good men eat and drink that they may live.”  Now perhaps it is a little “rough” saying bad men, maybe he could have said unwise people?

I like the quote, it shakes you up a little doesn’t it?  We (author included) make too many rationalizations about our eating habits, exercise habits and when we will start doing something about both of them.

We are what we eat!  Food becomes us.  Our bodies are as good as computers, they are as only functional as what we put in them.  I don’t think that most restaurant food is good for us, 99% of all fast food is garbage, and we sit on our asses too much at work and too much at home.

I don’t know that we should be vegetarians or vegans but I do know there benefits to many who go that route.  It is important for us to be intentional about our lives we can apply this to what we eat, how much we eat, when we eat, the quality we eat and to exercise: when we do it, how much of it we do and the quality of what we do.

We don’t have to buy gym memberships ,or you can.  Walking is free.  You don’t have to buy food processors and fix gourmet meals at home, or you can (and invite me.)  It is using what you have and being intentional about it.

Your loved one, family, friends and co-workers (most of them hopefully), want you around more than just tomorrow.  It is our duty to ourselves and not anyone else to take care of ourselves.  Eat better, eat less, eat quality.  Exercise some, more and often.

We can be the change we seek in this world. and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One body at a time.
