Change

Change.  I don’t mean the kind in your pocket, I mean the change that pushes us forward and through new opportunities in life.  Change.  The kind that can move mountains and move many out of our comfort zones.  I remember a quote I heard when I was a teenager “Change for the sake of change benefits no one.”  It went along with another that I remember, “if it is not broken, leave it alone.”  Both have some truths to them, but may not be the best advice for many of us.

I have shared with you many of my life’s journeys.  Having a time out about 6 years ago was the greatest 120 day gift I could be given in my life.  As Tyler Perry said “You get to get down before you get up with Jesus.”  For me that meant that I had to stripe my life down to the basics of who and what makes me, me.  It is jewelry, what I drive, where I live, where I work, where I eat, how much I spend for this, how much I make, how often I travel, or how much I have in the bank.  It IS about who I am.  What I do.  How I do it.  And the lessons I learn AND share along the way.

Material things that so many people collect can’t be taken with you when you die, nor should they define you among your peers when you do.  The song Randy Travis sings has it right, “It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go.”
I left a $52,000 year job over 2 years go to follow my calling to serve others.  Some define that as crazy.   I have prayed, meditated, and given series thought to by vocation and have questioned myself am I supposed to be doing this?  The answer every time (like a 2x4 across my head) yes. Yes. Yes.  I am where I am supposed to be.

Some people use up an entire lifetime doing what they are trained, schooled and paid to do, and are not happy.  Others have a gift of doing what they love and what they have great passion for, and make a great living.  And yet others do what they are called to do (which hopefully they have a great passion for as well) and instead of making fistsfull of money, they are paid in many other ways that provide “wealth” worth much more than any 6 or 7 digit job could ever provide.

How do you take that leap of faith?  How do you just pick up and start anew?  How do you just simply walk away and follow your dreams?  That is only a question that can be answered by you AFTER you have done it.  Remember, as you open the door to leave one chapter in your life, and opening a new journey begins on the other side.  There are no wrong answers, only paths and journeys that may allow you  to grow, learn, share, and live.

We can be the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One bowl of door at a time.
