July 4th 2011

In the midst of the race for politics, power, money, education, religion, there surly is room for the human race…

As I US Citizen I will celebrate Independence Day, perhaps in a different mindset that many or most. Today I think about who have given their life and their freedom to defend what the United States holds to be important, knowing that sometimes I agree and sometimes I do not. Supporting the brave people of the armed forces is the utmost importance to me. My brother served two tours of Vietnam in the Marine Corp and was not extended the same atmosphere that today’s troops are given. I hope that never happens again.

I also think about freedom. Some freedoms, rights and privileges are afforded to SOME Americans not all. I have faith and hope that one day we all shall be free, equal and Independent.

I can be the change that I seek in this world… I will remember that independence is a chance to make life for all, better.

Have a happy day of independence wherever you may be...

Being Surrounded

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote “I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.”  Being around friends, family co-workers, and others in social situations allows us time to be “on stage” for others to see who we are and how we respond in life.  I am blessed to have a wonderful partner and be surrounded by supportive family and friends.

Would you join me in prayer as it honors  your belief… “Parent of Love, Light and Life, thank you, thank you, thank you for the many blessings, gifts, and beacons of light that we are given in life.  Allow us the passion to accept those gifts, share those gifts and use those gifts to make life on earth better for all.  In your many precious names we pray, Amen.”

Forgiveness

“Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."  Is it easier, for you, to ask for forgiveness or to offer it others?  Both can be healing, rewarding, and experiences that allow you to grow in ways you never thought possible.  Is there someone whom you need get in right relation with?  This would be a great way to start…it is never too late.

After many of my life’s experiences, challenges, and  hurdles I realized when reflecting that I owed some people apologizes for the way that I had treated them, acted towards them.  I had done and said some things that were not authentic to who I know I really am.

I met with them.  Apologized and ask for their forgiveness.  I was nervous.  There was a pit in my stomach.  And when done, I was recharged, refreshed, renewed with love, life and light.  I knew that what I did was not easy, nor was it for them either.  Taking a walk down bad-memory lane could not have been on their top ten list that day, and they did it!

I can be the change I seek in this world…I will remember that forgiveness is a good thing, it warms the heart and cools the sting.

Friday (yes, it IS finally here!)

You are beautiful.  You are loved.  You are worthy.  Just the way you are.  Why is that so hard to believe when others simply don’t meet your expectations?  Perhaps the key is in our own expectations of that relationship.  I will not forget that I may pass Robins while looking for Meadowlarks.  And I may pass opportunity while searching for what I want, instead of what is to be received.

I once worked on a large community project with a friend of mine.  During the first several months of planning it was clear that the project would be a great success because of this person’s knowledge, passion and skills.  There were a few obstacles, from many directions and we always got back on track.  Then one day something changed.  That passion they once displayed was gone.  Little by little they started backing of the project.  Then it was apparent that some of their knowledge and skills were not as strong as they perceive.

Text messages, emails, phone calls were not returned, many people felt abandoned, frustrated and disappointed.  This person eventually communicated some.  They shared that they felt abandoned, frustrated and disappointed.  Perception is everything sometimes isn’t it?

Several friendships were lost.  Much respect faded.  Trust called to question.  Perhaps the expectations that we have for ourselves and others are set so high that they are unachievable under most any circumstance?  It has been said that when we reduce our expectations to nothing, each of us can really appreciate what  you have.
I can be the change I seek in this world… I will live life knowing that disappointment and expectations are a lot like bankruptcy;  bankruptcy of friendship, spirit, progress and life.
