2013 Week 53

Since the beginning of 2013 I have shared a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.  I now have 53 weeks of being grateful.  I will share, in another post, all of those words.

GRATEFUL WORD:
HUSBAND
Not the last thing I am grateful for and I did save the best for last... I met Jonathan on line in a general chat room many years ago.  We chatted for a year or so before finding each other on another website chatrooom.

We began chatting, then texting, and then phone calls and letters.  A couple of years into this he finally comes to Omaha for a visit.  In the moment we first laid eyes on each other, I knew.  I knew he was "my one."

I met his family, his sister Meg first, and then his dad and step-mom, Peter and Linda.  And then the rest of the clan.  I fell in love with each of them, all great people.  And who does not love nieces and nephews.

I had been in two serious relationship prior to Jonathan.  I knew that what I wanted, needed, and was hungry for; a person who would love me has hard as I love them, someone who would hold me accountable to my own beliefs, actions, and standards, and someone who doesn't live on the sofa.  I won the lottery on Jonathan.

We were married a couple of years ago, a ceremony in Council Bluffs with our friends and one in Branford, CT (his home town) it was awesome.

KWHL, 143247365, and I love you my Jonnard.

Coincidence

Coincidence?

I was given a wind-chime when mom passed in January.  I so cherish the music, noise, and “words” that come from it.  Sometimes I will acknowledge it and say “Hi Mom” or have a chat with mom while it “sings.”  And then it steps, as if to say, thank you for talking with me.

I was shopping at Bakers and found a young women staring at the coffee section a bit longer than one would normally.  I asked if she was ok.  When she turned to look at me her eyes had so much pain, discomfort and alone-ness.  I asked her if she wanted a hug, and she nodded her head.  I gave her a hug.  I asked her if I could prayer for her.  She began sobbing.  I offered a blessing and prayer.  When we parted our embrace she looked was glowing, smiling, full, and full of light.  She put an item in her basket and walked off.

When making a pastoral care call at a nursing home I stopped to talk to someone whom I don’t know.  He seemed a bit agitated, grumpy, and a little mean spirited.  I held his hand and listened.  He talked for a bit longer than I thought he would.  And I stood there every moment.  After he was done talking he walked away, took a few steps and then turned around and said, “Thank you for listening to this old man, I needed that.”

God moments?  Faith?  Spiritual Connection?  Karma?  Life?  Coincidence?  For me, I don’t care what, if any, label is used.  The truth is truth, without or without a man-made word, conception, or notion.

We are all human beings.  We all have needs, wants, and desires.  We will get them one way or another, and they all will not be the same way.  To me, religion is much the same way.  My connection to what I know as Sacred is just that.  Sacred.  One part of my day I may be praying to God, talking with my mom, thinking of the Buddha, meditating, thinking, or just being.  All of which are ways that I deal with circumstances, people, and events in my life.

2013 was a profound year of growing and learning for me.  I have been able to let go of many small pieces of baggage I have held for years.  I look forward to what 2014 will bring to me.  I think back on many events in my entire life.  I think what a journey.  Or coincidence?

You are BEAUTIFUL

You are LOVED

You are WORTHY

You are NOT alone.

May Peace, Love, and Compassion be with you.  And always from you.

Holiday Chat from Chaplain Royal

inclusivelife.org

Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and if you are traveling, you are safe. A message I share year-round is you are beautiful, loved, and worthy. You are not alone.

I would like to especially remind us all that these holiday times are much more difficult for some. We don't know what the person next to us has went through, is going through, or is about to go through.

Be mindful, sensitive, and share compassion this season, and every day.

Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, and Merry Christmas. May peace, love and compassion be with us all. And always from us.

2013 Week 51

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Messages
Perhaps I could have used the word passion, gift, or purpose-as they would have fit as well. For more years than I can remember I have "blogged" (even before the word was mainstream.)  There isn't a week that goes by that someone does not share that "the message" of the day was written just for them, or they needed it, or someone they knew needed it and they passed it on.

I thank my Mom for making me possible, how she nurtured by spirit, and the Sacred for allowing me the many gifts of healing that I have.  THANK YOU!

Wednesday Blog

Chaplain Royal Bush Omaha Nebraska Inclusive Life

Sobering thoughts as we enter the holiday season...It is important to remember that not everyone is surrounded by large wonderful families. Some of us have problems during the holidays and sometimes are overcome with great sadness when we remember the loved ones who are not with us. And, many people have no one to spend these times with and are besieged by loneliness.

We all need caring, loving thoughts right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. May I ask my friend...s wherever you might be, to kindly copy, paste, and share this status for one hour to give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares.

Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of all my friends just for moral support. I know some will! I did it for a friend and you can too!

2013 Week 52

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
CHANGE
School, work, family, organizations, friends.  All things that change.  No, nothing will stay the same.  It has taken me a long time to learn a lesson that we need to be ok with change, ok with the lack of change, and ok when either happens without our "permission" or knowledge!

As much as we would love for some things to stay the same, they are going to change.  As much as we want change, it may not happen when we want it.

Week 50 2013

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Husband
It was over 6 years ago that I began a conversation with this guy who lived in New Hampshire.  Little did I know that a few year later he would be living in Nebraska and be such an important part of my life.  I met Jonathan online, and we began chatting, emailing, then calling on the phone.  One face to face visit was all that it took, for both of us, to realize the connection we have.

February 28th is our anniversary, and in 2014 we will celebrate being together 6 years, and being married for 2 years.  When I set out to find a partner, spouse, husband, mate, significant other... I wanted someone who could love me as hard as I loved them, be strong enough to keep my grounded, and hold me accountable.  I have found that, and so much more in person who is most certainly a person who completes me in every way.

Holistic Health

SLEEP

Jack Challem, the Nutrition Reporter, shared that some research has shown that a lack of sleep might lead to an increased risk of overweight and obesity. The reasons have been attributed to a number of factors, including higher levels of stress hormones and disrupted eating habits.

A new study has confirmed that inadequate sleep could set the stage for weight gain.
Laurent Brondel, PhD, of the Centre European des Sciences du Gout, Dijon Cedex, France, and his colleagues studied 12 healthy young men.

On one day, the men were monitored as they went to bed at midnight and woke up at 8 a.m. On another day, they went to bed at 2 a.m. and woke up at 6 a.m., after just four hours sleep. In both cases, the men were allowed to eat as much food as they wanted.

When the men were sleep deprived, they were much hungrier before breakfast and dinner – and ate about 560 more calories that day. The increase in calorie intake, if maintained over the course of a year, would lead to an increase of at least 30 pounds in body weight.

“These experimental results suggest, as observed in several epidemiological studies, that sleep restriction could be one of the environmental factors that contribute to the obesity epidemic.”

The direction of these results should help every person understand the need to center their mind-body-spirit, and that plenty of rest is an important component of life (just as regular movement/exercise.)

If you are having trouble sleeping, please visit with your holistic health practitioner.  If you are not sure where to start, make an appointment with me, I would be happy to help.  www.inclusivelife.youcanbook.me

2013 Week 48

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
Traditions
Each year there is normally some decorations, perhaps a tree, and creating a city!  Jonathan takes great pride in sharing his village city  It brings comfort that we have our traditions.  Each person, couple, and family can have their own; whatever they are.

We will be heading to Connecticut this year to visit family and friends.  We are very much looking forward to sharing time with those we have not seen in some time, although it will be a quick journey and back.

Each Sunday I share a photo and word that represents what I am grateful for and brief message.

GRATEFUL WORD:
HOME
Omaha is my home.  Omaha is my city.  I am Omaha Proud!
I know that I am a bit bias, and rightfully so.  We live in a clean city that is diverse and full of great culture.  People that visit are most often pleasantly surprised about all that we have.  I am ok with that.  It is my city!

Holistic Health

STATIN DRUGS

Dr. Forrest Smith shared that it is well known that statin medications, used by some 30 million Americans, are detrimental to muscles and zap energy. Worse than that, they also increase your risk for cancer and memory problems. So why are they still being prescribed and why are Americans still duped into taking them? Statin drugs are effective in lowering cholesterol but is doing more harm than good?

What is hypercholesterol anyway and is it responsible for heart attacks?  Hypercholesterolemia is the health issue of the 21st century. It is actually an invented
disease, a "problem" that emerged when health professionals learned how to measure
cholesterol levels in the blood. High cholesterol exhibits no outward signs--unlike other
conditions of the blood, such as diabetes or anemia, diseases that manifest telltale
symptoms like thirst or weakness--hypercholesterolemia requires the services of a physician to detect its presence. Many people who feel perfectly healthy suffer from high cholesterol-- in fact, feeling good is actually a symptom of high cholesterol!

Doctors who treat this new disease must first convince their patients that they are sick and need to take one or more expensive drugs for the rest of their lives, drugs that require regular checkups and blood tests.  The best predictors of a future heart attack come from prospective studies that follow healthy people for a number of years to determine which ones go on to develop heart disease, and then to figure out why. Because these are expensive trials, very few of them are done. But those that exist have indicated that cholesterol levels are, in fact, a very poor predictor of future heart attacks.

A heart attack is the death of muscle cells in the heart from a lack of oxygen. This occurs when blood flow can’t reach the heart because of a blockage or clot in the arteries caused by a clumping of blood platelets, or because of inflammation that causes an unstable plaque to break off and block the blood flow in the artery. Sometimes a spasm in the artery blocks the flow to the heart, or the heart goes into electrical chaos and simply stops its synchronized beating on its own. Heart attacks involve one or more of 4 key components:

1. Clot formation
2. Plaque instability
3. Vasospasm
4. Electrical chaos (sudden death)

None of these four causes of heart attacks has much to do with increased cholesterol levels.
